Urbana, Illinois is the county seat of Champaign County, and it is home to about 41,300 residents. Outside of the Chicago Metro Area, Urbana is the 10th largest city in the state by population. Most of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Main Campus is found here, as the school sits along the border between this city and Champaign. Along with the neighboring village of Savoy, these communities make up the Champaign-Urbana Metro Area.

There are a variety of attractions and things to do in the Urbana area. The Market at the Square sets up shop in downtown Urbana, and visitors enjoy checking out the local produce and crafts. Station Theater, which is run by the Celebration Company, hosts a variety of live performances throughout the year, and residents enjoy checking out the annual Urbana Sweetcorn Festival every August. Urbana is also home to a variety of specialty shops that might appeal to visitors and residents alike, including the Meat Science Laboratory, Common Ground Food Co-Op, Strawberry Fields, and Bent Bean.

Climate controls are a necessity for living comfortably in the Urbana area, especially because different weather conditions will occur which each new season. The winter months are snowy and cold, and average daily highs in January only reach about 34 degrees Fahrenheit. Overnight lows fall into the teens, and with these freezing conditions, residents need to have access to an efficient furnace system in order to stay warm and to protect their property.

During the summers, weather conditions are dramatically different, with high thermostat readings and humidity levels. The hottest month of the year is July, with temperatures reaching about 86 degrees on an average day. A reliable central air conditioner will be a necessity to keep home interiors cool, especially for the elderly and other vulnerable populations that could be especially at-risk due to the heat.
